More obsessions

I went back to the old airport today to take photos. In theory, I went because I wanted to test out my old film camera to be sure I still knew how to take pictures with it. (I want to take it with me to when I go see Tai Shan because I have a strong zoom lens for it.) Well, I took a roll of film…and over 300 digital pictures. I obviously need help.

Things I learned today:

1. I should not be let out of the house with expensive stuff. I lost a lens hood and almost lost 2 lens caps. I hope my lens hood enjoys the rest of its unnatural plastic days the field across from the old hangar.

2. I’ve gotten very use to digital point and shoot cameras. When I first got one, the view screen annoyed me. I found it difficult to point the camera where I wanted using it. Now? I missed it with the film camera!

3. I’ve also gotten very used to the flippy screen on my new digital point and shoot. Need to get a cool angle? No need to bend over, sit down, lay in the grass, etc. Just flip the screen around and point the camera.

4. I’d forgotten how cool the camera slap sounds on an SLR. Seriously – it’s wonderful.

5. When poking your head into a bathroom in an old abandoned building a week after heavy rain, do not inhale. I got a snout full of mold and almost threw up on the spot. If I die from black mold spores, you’ll know why.

6. When walking around on an old abandoned property, watch where you are going – or some coiled barbed wire might suddenly appear to attack you.

7. It’s very important to not forget your freaking sun screen.

Photos to come later.

When panda obsessions get out of control

I’m going to see Tai Shan! I’m going to see Tai Shan! Yep, next weekend, I’m flying cross-country to see a baby panda bear. He better be awake and outside when I get there!

Tonight’s Sunset

I had to try and capture the sunset tonight. I didn’t have much time as the light was quickly fading – I took this from my driveway shortly after arriving home from work.

Obessed with cookies

No, it’s not me – shock! It’s Mishka. Every now and then, I buy cookies from the grocery store bakery. They come in this plastic container. At first, I thought he just loved the sound the plastic made when he gnawed on it. But no, it’s the cookies. Five minutes after bringing them home, he finds them and starts attacking. One night, I made the mistake of leaving the container on the counter-top when I went to bed. I woke up to half eaten cookies and crumbs all over the place. Tonight, I was emptying out the dishwasher. I opened up the plate cabinet and discover a container with 3 cookies left in it. I put them up there last week to keep them “safe” and then forgot about them. (I know!) So, I toss them in the trash can and go back to my flickr.com obsession in the other room. Ten minutes later – crash! Bang! Boom! Mishka had knocked over the trash can and was trying to get at the cookies. *sigh*

Good morning!

Mishka in the window by my bed. This is the site that greated me when I woke up this morning.

More airport photos

I found out there were more old airport buildings out there just waiting to be photographed and so I went today. The sky was horrid and we had just had our first good soaking rain in ages. I ended up covered in mud, but it was still fun.

Cold water

My friend Jess and I had lunch at The Omelettry today. I bored her with my recent photography obsession. Hey, I liked the colors in the table top.

Model World

Here’s short article about some fascinating photos.

It’s often hard to convince people that Olivo Barbieri’s aerial photographs are real. They look uncannily like hyperdetailed models, absent the imperfections of reality.
