An old glass jar inside a beaten up old safe at the bottom of a waste pit may seem an unlikely place to find a pivotal piece of 20th century history. But that’s just where the first batch of weapons-grade plutonium ever made has been found – abandoned at the world’s oldest nuclear processing site.

As I was changing lenses, Lucy starts pointing behind me and going, "aaaah! aaah!" I looked towards where she was pointing, but all I saw was a bunch of pigeons taking off. I thought she’d gone batty. Then, I saw IT. The Crumpler store. We weren’t even looking for it, but it found us. The call of the Crumpler is strong.
