Flash Class
Posted by miri On 9 April, 2005
I’m taking my second Flash class and just finished my first assignment. As always, it’s not as cool as what I wanted to make, but I ran out of time and it meets all the assignment requirements: sound synched to some sort of visual action and play, pause and stop buttons.
Sneeze Update
Posted by miri On 9 April, 2005
I just got back from taking Mishka to the vet. He doesn’t have a fever and his eye and nose discharges (while gross) are all clear. So, the vet doesn’t think he has an infection or, at least, not one severe enough to pump him up with drugs. I’m supposed to keep an eye on the discharges though. He also said I could get some over-the-counter anti-histamines (he wrote down the generic name and the right dosage) and try those for a bit to see if it is allergies.
Mishka’s right eye is always a little runny. The doctor thinks he might have a permanently blocked tear duct. The only way to treat that is to knock him out, so I don’t think we’ll do that. (Maybe when he has to be put under for something else they can try and clear that at the same time.) Plus, the doctor says that sometimes, even after flushing, they close right back up again. It doesn’t cause Mishka any health concerns, so it’s not really anything to worry about.
Sneezy Cat

Wanna know what’s fun? Being sneezed on by a cat all night while you are trying to sleep. Poor Mishka, I think he has a cold or something. Since he isn’t feeling well, he’s extra cuddly. So, he was sleeping next to me on the pillow and sneezing all over me the whole night. It was very gross. When I got home from the car dealer tonight, he was still sneezing and his eyes are all gummy. He looks miserable.
I wonder if I should take him to the vet – doesn’t seem like they could do anything for a cold.
Yay!

I freaking hate car dealerships. It took 4 hours and one “walk out,” but I have something shiny and new in my driveway for the amount I was willing to go into debt for.
Corneas and Cars
Posted by miri On 6 April, 2005
I went to the eye doctor today to find out how much my LASIK surgery was going to cost. Turns out, I have thin corneas. Hey! Something about me is thin! The bad thing about that is that I don’t qualify for standard LASIK. I have to get the kind that is 100% laser with no blade. Well, no blade sounds good to me, but it’s much more expensive. In fact, it’s $1,300 (wow, that’s a familiar number – it’s the same as the deductible on my roof) more than I have in my medical savings account. Plus, they expect full payment up-front. I then have to wait for reimbursement from the savings account. I’m really tired of being blind (legally blind without vision correction) and want this surgery. Plus, if I don’t get it (and thus spend the money in my medical savings account), I don’t get that money back. It’s gone forever and I have nothing to show for it.
Of course, I still went straight from the eye doctor to the car dealer. I mean, I got pre-approved for the loan. I have to buy a car, right? It makes even less sense for me to do so than it did before and yet… No, I don’t have it yet. Turns out the car I had picked out from the online inventory had massive hail damage. So, the sales guy is trying to find another car just like it from some place else. How many more signs do I need that this is a bad idea?
New Roof

The insurance adjuster came and looked at my house today. Turns out I do need a new roof. So, that’s one big-ass home insurance claim to file along with one big-ass deductible to pay.
New Car Jones
Posted by miri On 4 April, 2005
I’ve got a new car jones and it just won’t stop. I made it worse by test driving a car today. I don’t really need a new car (mine’s been paid of for two years and has been trouble free), but I want one!
